WESTWOOD SOCIAL ENTERPRISE

WHAT IS SOCIAL ENTERPRISE?

Social enterprises are businesses that operate to achieve social or environmental goals. In the UK, there are over 100,000 social enterprise businesses that are contributing more than £60 billion to the economy and providing employments for around two million people. These enterprises focus on benefiting people and the planet by reinvesting majority of their profits to advance their missions, promoting economic equality, social justice and sustainable environment.

Unlike other businesses, social enterprise businesses aim to achieve commercial success and make profits while having a positive impact on society. Their operations, employment practices, profit allocation, and community engagement are all geared towards transforming lives and communities both in the UK and globally.

Social enterprises operate every sector of the UK economy, offering and trading wide variety of products and services, including local community resources, creative agencies, arts organizations, recycling projects, cafes and restaurants, cleaning services, and waste management companies. Additionally, many social enterprises provide high-quality public services, with a significant portion of community healthcare providers operating as social enterprises.
